Leroy Akins, Jr. was born in Attapulgus, Georgia on July 14, 1959 to Alice Akins and the late Leroy Akins, Sr. In addition to his father, Leroy was preceded in death by a daughter, Shanquilla Akins and sister, Mamie L. Akins.
He was converted at an early age and joined St. Paul Primitive Baptist Church in Attapulgus, Georgia.
He was educated in the Public School System of Decatur County, Georgia and graduated from Bainbridge High School where he played football for the Bainbridge Bearcats. Leroy was employed with Englehard Mine.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his mother, Alice R. Akins of Tallahassee, Florida; two daughters, Shan Akins and Jessica Jones, both of Bainbridge, Georgia; two sons, Derrick Akins of Tallahassee, Florida and Leroy (Jennifer) Akins, III of Bainbridge, Georgia; two stepsons, Terry Poole and Monterious (Jerzonika) Brown, both of Tallahassee, Florida; three sisters, Martha Akins (Calvin) Hunter and Mary Akins (Stefon) McBride, both of Tallahassee, Florida and Mary (Abraham) Harrison; two brothers, Otha (Buffy) Akins of Havana, Florida and Nickless Akins of Tallahassee, Florida; 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild that will truly miss him; a special friend and companion, Mary Louise Brown; aunts, Sadie Fisher and Hattie Mae Jackson, both of Quincy, Florida, Virgeline (Earnest) Young of Midway, Florida, and Margarette Tillman of Kissimmee, Florida, and Shirley Ann Williams of Tampa, Florida; best friends, Otis Smith and John Perry, Jr; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who will soulfully miss him.
