On June 30th, 1953 Melvin Alphonso Gumbs known to many as “Boysie” was born on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands to Kitchner Alphonso Gumbs and Kathleen Adina Gumbs that union created 7 children.
Melvin attended elementary and junior high school in St. Thomas to include Nisky and Wayne Aspinall. He later attended the U.S. Job Corp where he earned an apprentice trade in Plumbing. Thereafter he return to his beloved home in St. Thomas and was employed with the United Virgin Islands Department of Health from 1977 until he earned his full Retirement after 28 years of Service.
In his spare time Melvin was the best cook, avid gardener, painter and enjoyed listening to music. His home was always fill with the love of food, every native V.I. plant imaginable and always ready to paint someone’s home. His kind spirited heart of giving and sharing his passion of cooking and planting to numerous nieces and nephews earned him the respect affectionately of “Uncle Boysie” . He always spoke to a stranger and make a friend, to know him is to Love him and know his jolly soul.
Melvin met the Love of his Life (Denice Abraham) in 1970 and was married thereafter from this Union his one and only child Tisha Louise Gumbs was born. He was a proud grandfather of four Aseahn, Khaleel, Tyrese and Arissa.
Melvin will certainly be miss by all the Family and Friends
