Our beloved daughter, Sister Rebecca "Becky" Adeyemi Alaba was born on Thursday morning, June 6, 1974, in Leon County, Florida to Dr. Adekanmbi and Emma.
She spent her early childhood in Clearwater, Florida and later transferred from Largo High School in Pinellas County and graduated from James A. She went on to graduate with Honors from Tallahassee Community College (TCC) with Associate of Arts and Associate of Science in Information Technology degree 2004, Computer Engineering and became a Microsoft Certified Application Specialist.
Served as Administrative Assistant and Contract Instructor for 9 years. Described as being committed, passionate, extremely organized and the ‘go to’ person; taught Computer Literacy and Office Applications to a multitude of customers at the State Agencies, and businesses. Including Director of Grants and Special Projects, IC3 certified (Digital Literacy) Program Coordinator Tech@Night initiative – training participants for professional certification. Also, an instructor at TCC for several years. Her specialties were many because her thirst for knowledge was unending. Working with people, especially children was her spiritual calling. She taught from the heart. She was very involved in educating adults in computer literacy and community outreach, helping people with food and clothing. She served as Personal Secretary to City Manager, Dot Inman-Johnson in Midway, Florida – their connection was God sent, personal and real, that provided solace during her illness and a smile during her treatments.
As a church member, she accepted Christ at an early age and later joined St Paul PB Church. She was a very active member, served on the usher board and youth Christmas programs until her health limited her service.
She was a mentor and champion for educating children in the Robofest Robotics Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math (STEM) program for the past 12 years. She served as a volunteer and assisted in every aspect of the STEM program (Robofest Regional Qualifying competition (2009 – 2019), very actively ensuring that they have a chance to have a great future. Her organizational skills were well utilized when she served as the Florida Site Volunteer Coordinator for the First Robofest International World Championship hosted by St Pete Beach, FL and Nielsen Media in Oldsmar, FL and organized by Computer Learning Center (owner Emma Alaba). Locally, she mentored, trained, and supported several teams of boys and girls from Havana, FL to compete in the Robofest Regional Qualifying competition. Her passion for serving is like the air we breathe; pure and natural.
