Deaconess Vida Mae Copeland was born in Havana, Florida on December 25, 1930, to the late Samuel A. and the late Seresa Williams.
She later met and married the late Leonard Copeland, Jr., on May 22, 1953. To this union eight children were born. She transitioned from labor to reward on September 13, 2024.
She was educated in the public schools in Gadsden County. She accepted Christ at an early age in Havana, Florida at Mt. Zion AME Church where she served on the Stewardess Board and later became an ordained Deaconess.
She had a passion for fishing and cooking. She loved spending time with her family.
A Time To Mourn
Deaconess Vida Mae Copeland was a dedicated and wonderful mom to her children. She leaves to cherish her loving memories three daughters: Teresa Derico (Johnny) of Havana, Florida, Janice Dixson (John) of Tallahassee, Florida and Shelia James of Cairo, Georgia; four sons: Larry Williams of Tallahassee, Florida Richard Copeland of Tallahassee, Florida, Bernard Copeland (Tammy) of Havana, Florida and Dexter Copeland of Havana, Florida; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Samuel and Seresa Williams; her son: Leonard Copeland, III; and her siblings: James T. Williams, Robert L. Williams, Edna Hamlett, Eric Jenkins, Maxine Cox, and Bernica Robinson.
